Complete Guide to Choosing a Hair Bow Type

Craftin Nikki offers a large selection of types, colors, and sizes of glitter bows and fabric bows. But the question that I get a lot is how will the bow I have picked out look on my 3-year-old granddaughter? Or, what type of clip or headband works best with my hair type? Let’s explore all of the options available to answer these questions and more.

Options Craftin Nikki Offers

We offer numerous options and sizes in hair bows, but which type of clip or headband is best for you?

Alligator Clips

  • Age Group: Adults and children to 6 months old (depending on the amount of hair they have).

  • It’s possible to place a clip anywhere in your hair, depending on the style.

  • Perfect for ponytails, pigtails, mombuns, braids, and up-dos.

  • This is the most common type of hair bow option. The small teeth on the clip provide a strong grip in any hair type.

Barrette

  • Age Group: Adults and children older than 12 months old.

  • Work great for little ones that tend to lose their bows at school or during daycare. The latch in the barrette prevent them from coming loose and falling out.

  • Also know as french barrettes.

Elastic Ties

  • Age Group: Perfect for any age.

  • Work perfect for pigtails and ponytails.

Soft Nylon Headbands

  • Age Group: Great for infants and children from 3 months to 5 years old.

  • These are extremely soft and can be easily tucked behind the ears.

  • Come in three colors to match most hair colors - nude, black, and white.

What size bow work best me?

Glitter Hair Bows

  • Most of my glitter bows are perfect any age and size person. All glitter bows are between 5” and 4 1/4” wide and 2 1/4” and 4” tall. My daughter, Fiona, is three and four years-old in the photos above, shown with one bow and then a photo with two bows for pigtails. The glitter bows are 5” x 3” with tulle backing and they do not crowd her head. Doesn’t she look just adorable? I could just be biased, but the hair bows made the outfit.

Fabric Hair Bows

  • Cotton hair bows are a wonderful alternative to glitter bows and are about the same approximate size as well. They come in two sizes, 5” wide x 3 3/4” tall and 3” wide x 2.25” tall.

  • There is a pigtail option with every fabric hair bow listing, They always look cute and add a much needed pop of color.
